The Kulon Progo Regency Government once again received the Maestro of Arts & Culture Award given by the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy.

The award was received directly by the Deputy Regent of Kulon Progo, Drs.H.Sutedjo at the 2019 Cultural Award Night at Jakarta, Thursday, October 10, 2019. There were only 5 Regional Governments in Indonesia which has received the awards: Gianyar Regency, Kediri, Kulon Progo, Ngawi and Sanggau Regencies. With regards to the award ceremony, Deputy Regent of Kulon Progo mentioned that evaluating culture is so broad and could not be separated from the ecosystem by the Ministry of Education and Culture. The involvement of institutions such as local governments, communities and others are considered very important:

“Through this award, the Ministry of Education and Culture expresses its gratitude to the award recipients who have carried out concrete works in the framework of building the nation’s character, persuade to preserve all our wealth and cultural heritage, building a spirit of togetherness and dare to accept differences” said Deputy Regent of Kulon Progo, Drs.H. Sutedjo.

By giving various awards, the Ministry of Education and Culture gives appreciation to the nation’s best sons and daughters who have high achievements and are dedicated to the preservation and development of Indonesian culture. Likewise, traditional art maestros, who with all their passion continue to work on rare arts, unique, and particular works of art following its geographical conditions and local customs. Hopefully, the process of inheritance can run synergistically with the aspirations of the next generation to maintain the values ​​of tradition. This is important so that we all continue to being committed to be a nation of character who is ready to face the global culture with all its dynamics.

With various things done in Kulon Progo Regency, the Ministry of Education and Culture conferred the Award Charter and gave the highest appreciation to Kulon Progo Regency with the Regional Government Category as Recipient of Maestro of Arts & Culture and Maestro of Tradition Arts Awards. The Minister of Education and Culture said, not only the Government but all of us, all elements of the Indonesian Nation, must have a strong commitment to continue to preserve and develop the nation’s culture which remains rooted in the local wisdom of each region by respecting Indonesian figures and individuals who have contributed actively and consistently.

For this reason, through technical institutions that handle culture, the Ministry of Education and Culture periodically gives cultural awards to figures or individuals and institutions considered to have been instrumental in developing elements of national culture as strengthening the nation’s character.

By giving various Cultural Award Awards, it is expected to be able to motivate Indonesian people from various elements, especially the younger generation to be more concerned with the development of Indonesian culture. On the other hand, as the implementation of legislation/bill No. 5 of 2017 regarding the Advancement of Culture, the government continues to strive to make culture more resilient. Legislation/bill No. 5 the Year 2017 emphasizes the aspects of protection, development, utilization and guidance for the promotion of culture to provide tangible benefits for the welfare of the Indonesian people.
